New iPhone will be Made of Liquidmetal

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Back in 2010, Apple had acquired rights to Liquidmetal Technologies' "amorphous metal alloys"  to bring their proprietary IP to Apple's consumer electronics products. Since then there have been rumors that next generation iOS devices will be made of liquidmetal.

Korean website - ETNews claims that the next generation iPhone will be made of "liquid metal" alloys, which will be thinner and lighter and more resistant to impact damage.

According to industry sources, the next flagship phones of [Apple and Samsung] are expected to adopt unprecedented materials for their main bodies, that is, ceramic for the Galaxy S3 and liquid metal for iPhone5, both being thin, light and highly resistant to external impacts. The new phase of the rivalry is because neither one of them can get a decisive edge over the other solely with its OS and AP specifications, features or design.

LiquidMetal is a series of exotic alloy components developed by researchers at CalTech and is often referred to as "bulk metallic glass". This is due to its atomic structure that makes it glass-like while offering a super-strong yet extremely flexible material that is resistant to corrosion and is scratch-proof as well.

ETNews also claims that Apple will launch the next generation iPhone made of liquidmetal at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. It's hard to believe that Apple will launch a new iPhone in just 9 months after the launch of iPhone 4S, so take this with a pinch of salt.

According to recent rumors, the next iPhone will be coming in fall 2012, which will feature the same 3.5-inch screen or very close to it, support 4G LTE networks and come with  a new micro dock connector. It remains to be seen if Apple will call it the new iPhone (like the new iPad) or iPhone 6 (sixth generation iPhone) or iPhone 5 (still seems to be a favorite among many websites).

What do you think? When do you want Apple to launch the next iPhone?

New Rubber/Plastic Material Used on New iPhone 5 Next Year

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

You may have heard so many rumors about next generation phone by Apple - iPhone 5 in complete new design. BGR report shows that Apple is planning to announce a completely redesigned iPhone in 2012.

new iphone 5

It is reported that the 6th gen iPhone - iPhone 5 may come with an aluminium back case like the original iPhone, which is different from the glass back cover used in iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. Meantime BGR also claims that Apple may be considering to use the material used in bumper cases in the new iPhone 5, which could be used as the front bezel to join the iPhone screen with the new aluminum back panel.

We have also learned that Apple is planning to use a rubber or plastic material — similar to the material used in the bumper cases — that will be built into the new iPhone case. In all likelihood, this material will be used as a bezel surrounding the front edge of the phone and it will perform in two purposes. First, it will join the glass iPhone face with a new aluminum back plate. It will also cover a redesigned antenna system that surrounds the device, allowing Apple to build the rear case out of aluminum without having to use a large plastic insert above the antennas, which is different compared to that design on iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.

BGR doesn't have a great track record when it comes to Apple related product rumors lately, so we would take this with a pinch of salt.  But Apple is widely expected to launch a redesigned iPhone next year after the launch of iPhone 4S, which looks like iPhone 4.

According the reports from BGR, Apple will launch sixth genetation iPhone - iPhone 5 in the fall of next year just like iPhone 4S. Let us know what you think about the possibility of a completely redesigned iPhone with aluminium back panel, and join by dicussion in following.

The top 3 connected devices in US

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

apples1207

In the US, Apple is clearly in the lead and holding its own against the competition. Apple also dominates in the UK, but it appears that Android and, particularly, Windows Phone took a bite from Apple's lead. Now that the iPhone 4S is available, it will be interesting to see if this trend continues in the current quarter.

JiWire culls a requests from approximately 289,000 public Wi-Fi locations in the US and uses this information to produce a quarterly report on mobile devices. Its latest report for Q3 2011 confirms what Apple fans already know -- iOS devices rule in the connected device category.

In its broadest sense, a "connected device" is any device that connects to the Internet. For the sake of this study, connected devices are defined as mobile devices that may or may not have a cellular connection. It's the device you pull out of your bag when you're sitting at Starbucks.

According to JiWire, almost 80 percent of ad requests in the US come from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The iPhone is number one with 41.9 percent of ad requests, the iPad is second with 23.8 percent and the iPod touch is third with 14.1 percent. Number four is Windows Mobile 7 with 4.9 percent, and the numbers drop precipitously from there.

From quarter to quarter, iOS fell 2 percent, but it still has a significant lead over Android in the US. Ad requests from iOS devices (79.9 percent) are 7 times greater than Android (11.0 percent). Interestingly enough, the mobile platform with the biggest jump is Windows Phone. It's in third place with 5.2 percent of the ad requests, but its quarterly share jumped 1.2 percent. Microsoft recently released Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and unveiled its first Nokia Windows Phone handsets; two factors which could explain this jump

A similar trend occurred in the UK. The iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are the top three connected devices with 71.1 percent of the ad requests. Android is second with 16.6 percent, and Windows Phone is third with 8.1 percent. iOS, though, dropped a significant 6.5 percent, while Windows Phone jumped 5.5%. Android was the only other platform to gain ground last quarter in the UK. It climbed 1.5 percent, while all other platforms fell.
